Lake Chelan and the North Cascade Mountains |
For example, there are six Sno-Parks (parking lots in the wilderness areas where snow has been groomed into trails for use by snowmobilers), there’s miles of groomed Nordic cross-country ski trails and there’s downhill skiing. . .
Benson Estate Winery - Chelan, Washington |
And of course there is wine – 24 wineries are scattered among vineyards that carpet the surrounding hillsides. In the winter the vineyards might be bare, but the tasting rooms are often open on weekends or by appointment.
There’s a lot to do and see in Chelan during the cold, crisp winter months. The lead story in the Seattle Times travel section yesterday tells you about its eateries, stores, and outdoor activities. There’s a ton to do there; take my word for it. . .I wrote the article! And I was on the road and didn't even see it until tonight. So take a look and be sure to click through the 30-photos that accompany the story on line!

and then think Chelan for a winter getaway!
Thanks for the time you spent with us – hope to see you back again later this week!
I would love to visit in winter and remember reading somewhere about some great cross country skiing. Looks like the sort of country that I'd love to explore.
ReplyDeleteI did write about the cross-country skiing in the article I wrote for the Times, Leigh and it does sound like some stunning views from Echo Ridge, which is very close to downtown Chelan. Thanks for stopping by~
DeleteDearest Jackie and Joel,
ReplyDeleteIt seems so strange for a vineyard landscape to become a winter destination! I would like to visit a place like this, in winter! Hope you are doing fine and have no problems with the weather. Wish you all the best!
Much love, Olympia
Oh hello Olympia! If you ever get to Washington State I'd love to give you a tour of Joel's childhood hometown, Chelan ~ any time of year would be fun to explore with you!
DeleteLove and hugs to you,
Jackie
I was an avid snowmobiler most of my life but got out of the sport for a few reasons. So, when you mentioned Sno Park it brought back great memories. I went over and read your article and what a fantastic write up, Jackie! I would definitely be stopping by Orchard Wood Ovens for a pizza :)
ReplyDeleteOMG Mike you would be in there with the owner cooking up a storm and the oven, oh my, you would absolutely love that oven. Thanks so much for following the link and tweeting it as well. Nice to have people enjoy my writing~
DeleteHappy Thanksgiving to you!
Jackie and Joel
It must be amazing to have a lovely vacation in there and to explore!! All the best and a great week!
ReplyDeleteIt was great fun researching this article! And Chelan really is fun any time of year! Thanks much, Alexa, for stopping by!
