On the Road in Tuscany. . .

Just saying the word, Tuscany, brings back memories of our day trip through Italy’s stunning countryside last fall.

As travelers you know those kind of memories; those images tinged with a just bit of regret because you didn’t .  . .

. . . linger a bit longer. . .

. . .appreciate more the experience as it was happening.

The kind of trip not dictated by a GPS, in fact, one not clearly defined on paper either. . .

That’s the kind of memories I am talking about.  Have you taken that type of carefree approach to trip planning lately? If not, give it a try – you might be surprised by what you find!  And if you’re ready for some armchair travel, head over to Budget Travelers Sandbox for Travel Photo Thursday.

(And thanks to those who let me know you couldn’t leave a comment last week because of Google’s fickle support of its blogging system.  I don’t know what caused the problem nor how to fix it, but thanks for letting me know. . .if it continues, please let me know at travelnwrite@msn.com)

  1. Ah Tuscanny! It must be on the top of my "must go to" list. I dream of it! I would love to have time to stay in a village and ramble around the country at leisure.
Wonderful images. Thank you for taking me there.
Have a wonderful week. And thank you for stopping by my blog today.

  2. I have travelled like that in Tuscany and Liguria. Although we had a home base, every day we just got out the map and drove, not caring where we ended up some days and others we would have a destination in mind, which may or may not eventuate. The surprises are the best.

  4. I haven't taken that approach to travel lately - but I do love what unfolds when I do. Most of my travel lately has had hard and fast start/stop times and need to be there times. But I find time slows down when you allow the wind to blow you wherever it happens to be going. Well put.

    1. You are right about 'time slows down' when you allow yourself the luxury of just being when you travel; no destination, no expectations, just explorers along a new path.

  5. I do know what you mean, Jackie. These are also the trips that bring a wistful smile to your face long after you return.

  6. I'm sure that I would love Tuscany. I know that feeling of wishing I had taken just a little more time to really the drink it all in. Sometimes I find it's hard to really do a place justice because it's so awesome you can't even believe you're there! I wish that I had taken the time to sit for about 1/2 hour in front of the Eiffel Tower -- no talking, no photos, just looking and thinking.

    1. I've thought the same thing about so many places - wishing I'd have simply sat for awhile and soaked in the experience. I may set that as a goal for all upcoming adventures.

  7. Hi Jackie! I still can't leave a comment on your site when I am using the Google Chrome browser.

Your shots are beautiful, and I so want to go to Tuscany. Slow travel really is the way to go :)

    1. Thanks for visiting Mary and glad you liked the post. We have a friend who uses a spreadsheet to calculate - not plan - his trips. . .right down to the day and location and travel distance. He keeps saying that he and his wife should link up with us in Europe; but I am not sure who would drive who crazy first in that foursome!
